‘My House, My Home’
‘My House, My Home’ is a proposed participatory ceramic installation that will celebrate the voices and identities of over six hundred young people from a richly diverse inner-city school community in Sunderland.
At its heart, the project invites each student to create a porcelain house, an intimate, hand-made form that becomes a vessel for personal expression. Through image-making, written word, and spoken word, each house will offer a unique insight into the lives of the pupils, their families, and their relationship with home, community, and the city itself.
Together, these small-scale sculptures will form a powerful, permanent installation in the entrance hall of a newly built school opening in September 2026. As a collective, they will stand as a visual and auditory archive—a living, growing portrait of a school community that reflects the richness of its cultural fabric.
My House, My Home is both a celebration and a statement: that every child has a story worth telling, and that art can give shape and space to those stories within the architecture of everyday life.
